Are you a creative? Have you written, composed, created work that ought to be copyrighted? Other than short slogans, most of the written word is eligible for copyright and if you haven’t ever visited www.copyright.gov, head over there PDQ. And you can indeed do it yourself; there’s kind of a myth out there in some circles that you need a lawyer, but (though I’m not a lawyer and this is not legal advice) it’s easy enough to do on your own. And here’s another tip: for some multiple copyright needs, like a series of poems, or songs, you can copyright a collection and therefore pay a reasonable fee starting at $35.00, instead of individual fees that can run into much bigger bucks. You can even register electronically!
