As we once again embark on turning the clock to a new year, it’s that inevitable time of reflection. The internet and tv screens are a buzz with profound moments of the year, wishes for the next, and top 10 lists. People ask, what’s going to be BIG THING in 2011. Inigo Montoya (a.k.a. Mandy Patinkin) said it best in The Princess Bride, “Let me ‘splain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up”. It seems apparent that CREATIVITY has been on the rise in the last several years, and is being accepted as a bona fide if not tangible method of boosting biz, from individuals becoming blog moguls, to corporations bringing in creatives to foster a broader scope of thinking. Creativity isn’t only for “the arts” (says this artist) and 2011 just might be where the tipping point lies. Read ‘A Whole New Mind’ by Daniel Pink for a window into this realm, (with thanks to Rick Toone for the book recommendation). Let’s face it. These days, we all need to be creative to get and sustain business. Social media may or may not be reaching critical mass, Malcolm Gladwell might be writing his next book, and we’re all hoping that no matter what happens, it will be a prosperous 2011 for all. I could say it’s an unprecedented time, but I’m sure every era has felt that way. I sometimes wonder…if Leonardo DaVinci were alive today, what would his contributions be like?
Let’s hear your thoughts. Where do you see creativity leading us in the next year?
